Michaela Broeckx
has frimly rooted in the Middle East, from the days she obtainerd her MA in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies. Having moved to Damascus, where she continued to finetune her spoken and written Arabic at Damascus University, the Institute of Arabic Laguage for Non-Native Speakers, the al-Quds Language Center and the British Council, she literally immersed herself in Middle Eastern culture, from customs and manners to business and the local art scene. From Damascus, she travelled throughout the Middle East, being deeply touched by the devastations at Quneytra on the Golan Heights, thrilled by the persistent positive outlook on life at Beirut, taken by the throbs of commercial activity in Antioch (Antakya) and Aleppo, or engaged by the schizofrenic tensions demonstrated by the war-torn Bedouins at Abu Kamal on the Iraqi border.
Next (2004), she moved to the Gulf, where she participated in the launch team of Nawras (Omani-Qatari Telecommunications Company) and continued to build her social and business network in Oman and the Emirates.
