Francis Laleman

started off as an academic, studying indology, reading Sanskrit and researching ancient Buddhist texts. Then, wanting to go beyond dusty libraries and discover India as it really is, he travelled extensively throughout the Indian subcontinent, studying, researching, lecturing, writing and reporting - continuously extending his scholarship and developing an on-the-field India expertise without equal.

In the nineties he moved into business, quickly assimilating the ins and outs of industrial organisations, and moving from training and development to management. Participating in the launch team of a series of Telecom businesses, he ended up in the Middle East and the Gulf, further developing his intercultural skills, and all the while remaining to do research, write, lecture and speak. For the last fifteen years, Francis has toured the world as a business trainer emphasising on (intercultural) competences and leadership, as a public speaker and an appraised storyteller.

Francis is the founder of Beyond Borders, with Michaela Broeckx and Eddy Hemelrijck he initiated Dunya, and with Bert Verdonck he established India Business Support as a strong brand on the outsourcing/offshoring and sourcing markets. Also, with Jerry Meuris he established Anand vzw, an organisation funding community development projects for the Dalit and Scheduled Castes Communities in Bihar, India.
