When Francis Laleman and Michaela Broeckx bougth the Buerbaum House in Berchem, back in 2005, the house had remained untouched and unaltered for nearly a hundred years, the last example of orientalist private houses in Antwerpen, and the only one to have withstood the time in its original form.
Renamed Bayt al-Andalus (The Andalusian Mansion), pretty soon the new owners set out for the house an ambitious renovation plan, starting from the ground floor and steadily going up to the third floor. As of today, the renovation scheme is still ongoing.
